Incorporating Flowers Into Your Wedding Color Theme
It is challenging to choose wedding flowers and incorporate them into the color theme of your wedding. Below are some strategies on how to choose the color of the flowers for your wedding. For discussion here, let’s talk about the color of the flowers used in bouquets for the bride and bridesmaids. In choosing the color of the flowers it is important to take into account the color of the dresses. Do you coordinate or contrast the flower color with the dresses.
White Wedding Dress
If the bride is wearing a white wedding dress and the bride maids are wearing pink, you can coordinate your flowers with your bridesmaids' dresses. For example the bride might hold a white bouquet, and the bridesmaids would hold a white and pink bouquet. A great flower combination would be pink roses and white calla lilies for the bridesmaids and a bouquet full of white calla lilies for the bride.
Colored Wedding Dress
If the wedding dress is going to be colored more thought needs to be given to the color of the flowers. Below are three ideas.
1) Use the Same Color - A nice combination can be created by using flowers that in the same shades of the color of the wedding dress. For example if the dress is blue you can use flowers that include intense red through to pastel pinks. This is sometimes referred to as a monochromatic color scheme.
This way of using shades of color is quite common when choosing flowers for the table arrangements too.
2) Use Colors that are Complementary - Complimentary colors are color when placed next to each other, complement each other and appears to make both of the colors brighter and more intense. If you have a green dress you can use red flowers which is a complimentary color to red. Other complimentary colors are orange/blue and purple/yellow. Roses and carnations are great flowers to use for they come in a great selection of colors.
3) You can always use white – If you are struggling to come up with a color you can always use white. White always looks great against a colored dress.
